Charles Beer was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1995, and served as a cabinet minister in the government of David Peterson.
Beer was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1987 election in which the Liberal Party won a landslide majority. Beer was appointed a parliamentary assistant in 1988, and was promoted to Minister of Community and Social Services and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs on August 2, 1989. The Liberals were defeated in the 1990 provincial election but Beer retained his seat.
