I am Cornelia Machin, a proud resident of 25th Street and taxpayer for over 35 years.  I raised two sons and enjoy walking dogs daily along the waterfront trail.  I have family and friends also residing nearby.  This area has seen a surge in development during the last five years which detrimentally impacted the infrastructure causing congestion on all of the roads, whether we are driving, walking or riding our bikes.

The recently built developments in this area have NOT even provided enough parking for their residents.  Not only that, the impact of developments presently under construction (including Dixie Lakeview, the rezoning of 30th Street) which will add low-rise apartment buildings, has not yet been measured or felt.

The magnitude of the proposed development into the middle of a historic residential area will undo the beauty and the history of this community.  The removal of over 100 of our majestic and protected trees which clean the air and provide nesting for various wildlife will be absolutely detrimental to climate change efforts!   Can you imagine owning a beautiful, historic home with a garden where you are growing fruits and vegetables for your family, enjoying the sun in your backyard patio, and now there is a large building casting constant shade on your house and property, stripping you of all privacy?

The proposed site is much too large for this area, so I believe that the council needs to consider all of these possible ramifications.

Future meetings must be in person so that ALL constituents’ voices will be heard, including the elderly who have lived here the longest. We need your help in this regard.  Thank you for listening.

Sincerely, Cornelia Machin
