Michelle de Courville Nicol is a native of Timmins and a graduate of Laurentian University. A resident of Ottawa since the end of the ‘60’s, she has four children and nine grand-children. She’s a Franco-Ontarian who is committed to fostering the growth and vitality of her community.

Her interest in the emerging fields of computers and information technology started in the 1980’s and in partnership with her husband, she managed various family businesses, mainly in the field of video duplication, production and post-production and later, in consulting, translation and revision.

Michelle de Courville Nicol has always been active in her community, notably as a member of the Board of the Gloucester Public Library and Les Éditions L'Interligne. She was a member of the Board of trustees of Hôpital Montfort from 1990 to 2005 and was its chair from 1995 to 2001, the years during which the Hospital had to wage a fierce fight for survival while the Ontario government tried to close it in a province-wide health restructuring exercise. She was one of the two plaintiffs for Hôpital Montfort against the Ontario government in its fight before the courts; the hospital won its case before the Superior and Appeal courts.

Since 2006, she is chair of the Board of trustees of Montfort Renaissance Inc., a non-profit community agency active in the fields of drug addiction, mental health and subsidized housing. She is honorary co-chair of the États généraux de la francophonie d’Ottawa (2011-2012), a collective exercise whose objective is to enable Francophones living in the greater Ottawa region to participate in establishing a vision for the future of their community.
