Beddows, Joël

As an artist, Joël Beddows is recognized for his passion for a challenging yet dream-like repertoire, as well as for creative theatre and theatre for teens. Between 1998 and 2010, he was the artistic director of the Théâtre la Catapulte in Ottawa. During his time there, he transformed the company of emerging artists into one of the most importantlargest touring theatre companies in Canada and a haven for Franco-Ontarian artistsplaywrights and translators. In 2010-2011, he worked as artist-in-residence at the Foyle Arts Centre in Derry, Northern Ireland. He then moved to the University of Ottawa, where he has been an Associate Professor since 2002, to head up the Department of Theatre, where he has been an Associate Professor since 2002. As a "creative researcher", he who also holds a Research Chair in Canadian Francophonie (cultural practices), he and dedicates his research to exploring new forms of theatre.
