Sonia Poulin was appointed Director of Alberta Law Libraries in April 2008. She is responsible for the strategic vision, leadership and management of information technology, legal information resources, research and training services for the judiciary, practicing bar, Crown prosecutors, government lawyers, and Albertans via a provincial-wide network of law libraries.
Prior to joining Alberta Law Libraries, Ms. Poulin gained extensive law library and legal research experience in both legal traditions in law firms and law schools in five provinces and in both official languages. In addition, she chaired the Board of Directors of CanLII (2010-2012) and co-founded the Alberta Legal Information Society whose website LegalAve is now available.
Trilingual, she holds a BA in linguistics and Teaching French as a second language (Concordia), a Master of Library and Information Science (McGill), and a Master of Business Administration (Strathclyde). She also studied law (University of London) and completed doctoral level courses (McGill). She lives outside of Edmonton with her family and four dogs and one cat. She is a member of various legal organisations such as the Association of French Speaking Jurists of Alberta (AJEFA).
