A native of Quebec and a graduate of Carleton and Laval University, Yves Frenette is a Professor of History and Director of the Institute of Canadian Studies at the University of Ottawa. He is also an Adjunct Professor of History at York University. He is the author of two books, including Brève histoire des Canadiens français (1998), and of more than seventy chapters and articles, in addition to having edited or co-edited fifteen books. Frenette is director of the award-winning website Francophonies canadiennes: identités culturelles ( www.francoidentitaire.ca ), and is a frequent commentator in the media.

An elected member of the Société Charlevoix, a scholarly group devoted to the study of French Ontario, Frenette recently completed Brève histoire illustrée de l’Acadie which will be published this Fall 2012 by Éditions du Septentrion. The historical atlas La francophonie nord-américaine (co-edited with Étienne Rivard and Marc-Saint-Hilaire) will also appear in 2012. He is co-investigator in the Major Collaborative Work « Le français à la mesure d’un continent : un patrimoine à découvrir ».

Frenette is at work on several other projects, including a history of North Dakota’s Francophones, the role of correspondences in the making of the French-Canadian diaspora, the francophones of Central and Southwestern Ontario, the biography of a Danish immigrant to postwar Ontario, French immigration to Canada and Canadian emigration to Brazil.
