Roy McMurtry has enjoyed a distinguished career of public service. As former Chief Justice of Ontario, former Attorney General of Ontario and respected trial lawyer, he is a leader, facilitator, and one of the giants of the legal profession. His many accomplishments include a major role in the patriation of the Canadian Constitution and the creation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He also introduced a bilingual court system to Ontario. Mr. McMurtry founded and is President of the Osgoode Society, which has published 70 books on the history of the law and the legal profession in Ontario and Canada. He also founded the Ontario Justice Education Network which provides education related to the law to high school students throughout Ontario. Mr. McMurtry also distinguished himself as Canada's High Commissioner to Britain and remains fully committed to public service, equality and justice. He was awarded the Order of Ontario in January 2008.
