Doug Mitchell practices exclusively in all areas of litigation with the exception of criminal and family law. He regularly pleads before all levels of courts in the Province du Québec, including numerous administrative tribunals, as well as the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. He also regularly acts in arbitration matters, both as counsel and as arbitrator.
In 1997, Doug Mitchell founded with Me Colin Irving the firm presently known under the name of Irving Mitchell Kalichman, specialized in the area of civil and commercial litigation. Today, Irving Mitchell Kalichman has eighteen (18) lawyers.
Doug Mitchell has amongst his clients GE Canada, the Autorité des marchés financiers, JTI-Macdonald, the Bank of Montréal, the Fonds d’assurance-responsabilité du Barreau du Québec and the Barreau du Québec, the Chief-Justice of the Province of Québec, the Canadian Judicial Council , the Régie du Bâtiment. In 2009, he was elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is recognized as a leading practitioner by Lexpert magazine and Chambers Global. In 2009, he was recognized as the leading commercial litigator in the Province of Québec by Best lawyers in Canada. In 2014, he was recognized at the Bet the Company Litigator of the year for the Province of Québec by Best Lawyers in Canada.
