Pierre Champagne, a fully bilingual partner as well as co-managing partner of the Ottawa office of Heenan Blaikie, practices civil and commercial litigation as well as arbitration, representing parties to civil and commercial disputes. He has experience acting, amongst others, on behalf of, or against, accountants, denturists, engineers, investment advisers, insurance brokers and agents, home inspectors, insurance adjusters, podiatrists, physicians, school boards,
municipalities, religious institutions, regulated health colleges, lawyers, merchant banks, landlords, software distributors, construction companies and insurance companies.
Pierre Champagne has extensive experience advising public and private sector clients in a variety of mandates. With a diverse client base, a client-first approach to the delivery of legal services, strong community involvement and
over 17 years of experience, Pierre Champagne is well qualified to act in all civil and commercial disputes.
He has provided representation for his clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada and various administrative tribunals.
Mr. Champagne attended the University of Ottawa, where he received degrees in both Engineering and Law, graduating magna cum laude in both cases. In addition, he has successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course given by the
Canadian Securities Institute.
He received the Blake, Cassels & Graydon prize and the Attorney General of Ontario prize for highest academic standing while contributing significantly to the advancement of common law in the French language. Mr. Champagne also
participated in two moot court competitions: the Laskin Moot Court and the Moncton-Ottawa Moot, where he received the Justice Beaulne and Justice Sirois prize for best advocacy skills.
From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Champagne taught Law for Engineers at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa. Since 2002, he has been teaching Civil Procedure at the Law Faculty of the same University.
Mr. Champagne is also a director and treasurer of the Théâtre du Trillium in Ottawa.
